A Lifetime of Craftsmanship

We’re grateful for stories like this one that remind us of the lasting impact of Canadian craftsmanship.

Customer Story

I have recently retired from the University of British Columbia, after 45 years as a professor (19 of those years at the University of Guelph).

This has been my desk since 1972:

I bought it at Sears Used Furniture Store (run by brothers Ray and Jim Sears), in Hamilton in 1972. This desk and chair have been with me constantly for over 50 years, from working on my Master’s degree at McMaster University, through a wonderful and varied career, to my retirement, and for several years since.

Well worn, well loved, for over five decades. The chair has been amazingly comfortable, even after sitting and working at the desk for hours.

Now, we are downsizing our house, and moving to a condo, so it is time to part with my desk. Sadly, no one seems to want this kind of furniture anymore (I have tried repeatedly to donate it to students, to people in my neighbourhood). It’s likely to go to “zero waste” recycling early next week (we move from our house on Wednesday), but before it does, I want your company to know how much your product has meant to me over so many years.

So sturdy, reliable, well-built, so comfortable and well-proportioned, it truly saddens me to think of no one else having that experience with it, as I have had.

So, thank you Lordly Jones! And what a treat to see that you are still in business since 1943!
